True Story
What affect do you have on those around you? Recently I went to Costco to pick up some supplies. For those of you not familiar with Costco, it is a warehouse store that allows you to buy gallon jars of Miracle Whip, twenty pounds of butter, and fifty rolls of tissue at a time. However, they do make you pay an annual fee for the privilege. After loading my car I decided to get a haircut if the line was not too long. I walked across the parking lot to the local shop and went inside. I saw the list of names on a clipboard and signed my name. There was only one person sitting in the shop, three workers, and my name was next on the list. I thought, great timing.
The next thing that I heard was one of the beauticians answering the phone and telling the person on the other end of the call very "strongly" that it was not her fault that the directory assistance operator had given out the wrong number for the shop. In fact, the beautician told the other party very tersely that she should call a phone company supervisor and tell them they need to learn how to do their jobs. Additionally, she told the other party not to bother telling someone at the shop her problem with getting their number.
About that time one of the customers, a young man, gave another beautician a five-dollar tip. The first beautician asked if the young man had requested the other beautician because he was a good friend of her sons and did not understand why the other lady had cut his hair. She then sort of stood in the middle of the shop expressing to all that she did not know why she had to work in hell.
Moments after that another man came in to inquire about getting a haircut, and he was told that there would be about a ninety-minute wait. I then asked politely if there was really a ninety-minute wait, and she responded with "Where is your name?" I said, my name is Dan and it is on the list right there (pointing to it). She said, "Do you think that just because your name is next on the list, that you are next?" I said, "I am not sure." She then told me that she would explain to me how it worked, so that next time I would not be so presumptive in determining my spot on the list. I said, "You are having a really bad day, aren't you?" She stepped back and replied, "I just buried my father, and I have to be here, in hell, working." I remained sitting and began saying a silent prayer.
She then explained the system to me, even though I very politely said, "its ok". She explained that people signed the list I had signed when the beauticians are busy and the beauticians move the name to the "real" list when they finish with someone else. She then said as an afterthought that if I wanted to wait, and if people that signed their names did not come back on time, I might get in quicker. She then asked if I wanted my name on the list for the hour and a half wait. My verbal response was a soft, "probably not".
I will tell you that the response I gave was not the same response I would have given even a year ago. At that time, I would have given as good as I got. It might not have been directly to her, but rather a letter to the manager, owner, or someone in charge. It would have stated the rudeness that others and I had been exposed to by their uncaring employee. I definitely would have left without a second thought. However, in a secret station, in the Music of the Soul, it says that the deep message is love, polite, and generous. When I read that the first time, a clear and distinct voice said, "it's time". I knew that it meant that it was time to take the promise. I have tried to live my life by that deep message ever since. Thus my response to her was different than previous years. The guy sitting next to me said, "you were sure nice about that". I said, it would have done no good to be anything else. About that time he was called and I was now sitting alone.
Seven to ten minutes had passed, not an hour and a half, when she came over, looked at me sheepishly, and asked, "do you want me to cut your hair?" I said, "I was waiting for you" It was true; somehow I knew that if I stayed, she would be the one to cut my hair.
She asked how I wanted my hair cut and I said use a number six guard. I really don't have much hair to deal with anyway. While I was sitting in the chair she talked about this place not having any love. I countered with "I think there is love here now". She said maybe, and then she asked, "Are you an angel?" I said quietly, "not hardly," but I have been praying for you since you first talked to me. She said she had to ask.
Then an interesting thing happened. They write your name on a small piece of paper and take it to their station for billing. About half way though the cut she stopped, turned the piece of paper over, and with tears in our eyes told me that my name, Dan, was her father's name. A chill came over my entire body. I told her to give her dad the best haircut he ever had. She cut my hair without using the #6 shear guard, but rather using her hands and scissors, which is a much more personal method.
A visible and physical change had occurred in her. She was much calmer and had a softer look about her. Her voice was even softer. I paid her, she hugged me and I went on my way believing that my going there was not an accident. I believe that the walking of our path can have a positive affect on all people we deal with. Each day you come in contact with people, and you have an effect on each of them to some degree. Hopefully, it is a positive experience for all involved.
Are Avocados Good For You?
By definition: If it has seeds it is a fruit. Most fruits have seeds like apples, pumpkins, squashes, melons, berries, chili peppers, zucchini, tomato, bell pepper, eggplant, pickles, mangos, bananas, and papayas. Avocados are a fruit but have no sugar. Our ancestors fattened up on fruit in season to prepare for the winter. Now this is not necessary since we have food available all year round.
According to Dr. Gundry, say goodbye to sugary foods except for unripened bananas, mangoes, and papayas. Avacados have no sugar. Avocados are in a class of their own. They have been controversial for the last few years but are coming back. They have exceptional nutritional value and health benefits.
For health and wellness, we are looking for food high in fiber, folic acid and phytonutrients (also known as phytochemicals they are natural compounds found in plants that contribute to their color, flavor, and disease resistance. They are not essential nutrients like vitamins or minerals, but they provide health benefits and significantly promote wellness. Rounding out with beneficial vitamins B and E they are a great addition to managing your nutritional needs as they taste great and can be used in many ways for salads, side dishes, desserts, and even homemade baby food filler. My favorite would be a spicey guacamole. Avocados also have a low glycemic index not spiking blood sugar when eaten and it is filling.
It is heart-friendly promoting good cholesterol and blood pressure with its monounsaturated fat, various minerals, and vitamins. Regularly eating avocados increases calcium absorption for bone health and much-needed micro-nutrients.
Avocados have a high lutein level affecting reduced inflammation which may help in cancer reduction as cancers often start with inflammation. Some of the unfavorable effects of avocados are high fats of 29 g of fat with just one avocado being 300 calories or more. Limit slices per day to keep your calories manageable. The cost of avocados is self-limiting too so spread them out for you to take advantage of their nutritional value.
Those who have a latex allergy may also have an allegric reaction from eating avacados as thay share an enzyme called chitinase. Other fruits may also have cross-allergy affects such as kiwis, chestnuts, tomatoes and bananas. In animal research, if avacados are not fully ripe it may limit how much milk can be produced by a lactating mother.
The liver may be sensitive to the avocado if one has liver issues as it encourages collagen formation that could affect the liver with fibrosis if eaten excessively daily.
Enjoy the various recipes and nutrition of avacados while being aware of calorie intake, ripeness and allergies to get the most healthy nutrition from eating this fruit.
